Sutphin, Joseph Charles

Joseph Charles Sutphin, known to many as Charlie, of Pearisburg, Virginia passed away on August 2, 2026, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital. He was born on August 7, 1961, in Pearisburg, Virginia, and he lived a life marked by quiet strength, steady kindness, and a deep appreciation for the simple things that made a home and family meaningful.

Charlie was a man who valued hard work, and practical skill. He found joy in gardening, where he could nurture life with patience and attention, and in tinkering, where his curiosity and resourcefulness were always put to good use. Whether he was tending to plants, repairing something that others might have set aside, or lending a helping hand, Charlie approached each task with a thoughtful spirit and a willingness to do things the right way.

Charlie is survived by his brothers, Delbert Sutphin and his wife Cathy, Johnny Sutphin, and David Sutphin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul William Sutphin and Anna Leola Hefner Sutphin; his brother, Paul Daniel Sutphin; and his sister, Sandra Holiday. Their memory remained an important part of his life, and he carried the bonds of family with him throughout the years.
