Jackson, Fredrick Dennis

Jackson, Fredrick Dennis 2Early on the morning of October 31, 2026, Dennis Jackson (The Virginia Gentleman) of Pulaski, took his final journey and entered his heavenly home. He was born on February 24, 1947, to Fred A. and Sadie M. Jackson of Max Meadows. He arrived during a blizzard; the farmers in the area kept the roads open with their tractors so that doctors could get to the family home.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters Phyllis A. Holliman and Wanda J. Fisher, brother Robley A. Jackson, and sister-in-law Joan G. Knode.

He held a Class B Contractor license for 30 years and he and his crew built many homes in southwest Virginia. He served as foreman of a large department at White Motors (later known as Volvo Trucks North America in Dublin), managed a crew of mechanics for Kenny Carter Engine Rebuilders, and ran Dennis Jackson farms where he raised beef cattle.

Many people knew Dennis and his wife, Janet, as owners and operators of Elk Creek Dragway. He also owned Jackson Racing Engines. What began as a hobby became a 43-year business and a family passion.

Dennis was the founder and president of the Christian Men’s Fellowship (CMF) at First Christian Church (DOC), Pulaski. He served his church in many capacities over the years, including board co-chair, cabinet chair and singing in the choir.

Dennis was a man of many talents – mechanic, farmer, welder, cable television installer, and race car driver. Most of all, he was a good husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family very much and his favorite title of all was “Pop Pop.”

Dennis is survived by his wife of 58 1/2 years, Janet G. Jackson, who will readily tell anyone who asks that Dennis was the love of her life. He is also survived by his children, Missie (Greg) Nash, and Rusty (Melissa) Jackson, all of Pulaski; grandchildren Ashlin Jackson of Pembroke, Jordan (Adam) Boadwine of Fairlawn, Ericka (Sarah) Nash of Galax, Bailley Nash and Drew Jackson, both of Pulaski; one great-grandson, Jackson Ryan Boadwine of Fairlawn; one brother-in-law, John (Beth) Gregory of Leeds, Alabama; nieces, nephews, many friends, and his racing family.

Per his wishes, Mr. Jackson has been cremated. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026 at First Christian Church (DOC) of Pulaski. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3 at the church.

The family offers special thanks to Highland Ridge Rehab Center and ACG Hospice for their dedication to Dennis’ care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church (DOC), 524 Jefferson Ave N, Pulaski, VA 24301.
