Reed, Beulah Gilmer
Beulah “Momma” Reed, 76, of Christiansburg, Virginia passed away peacefully in her home on July 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born on May 17, 1950, she was an incredible mother who spent much of her life raising her four boys, preparing them for the world by teaching them the value of hard work and a heap of other essential duties such as cooking, cleaning, gardening, and canning “anything you can stick in a jar.”
She truly enjoyed planting flowers, from big to small, and all flowers in between; she loved being surrounded by their elegance. Beulah was an extraordinary person, beautiful inside and out, who treasured each moment with her loved ones. She made every person she met feel like they were family and had an amazing heart, overflowing with love to give to those around her. She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmy” Reed, father, Fred Gilmer, mother, Helen McPeak Gilmer; brothers, Charlie “Mac” Gilmer, Herbert “Wayne” Gilmer, James “Jimmy” Gilmer; sister, Linda Gilmer, and seven additional brothers and sisters.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her four sons and “adopted” daughters, James “Bobby” Reed and wife Denise, Randall “Scott” Reed and girlfriend Kelly Hinkley, Phil “Dee” Reed and wife Darlene, and William “Chris” Reed and wife, Shana; sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma “Colleen” Bragg and husband Dale, Shelba Baker and husband Ken, and Debbie Gilmer. Beulah, lovingly known as “Granny,” also leaves behind her adored grandsons, Axton Reed, and Jacob “Jake” Reed, who have endless treasured memories to forever hold dear. “Granny” also leaves numerous other beloved grandchildren to cherish her memories including Sam Reed, Travis Reed (Karri), Kayla Comer, Derrick Linkous, Halley Stanley, Madison Stanley; great-grandchildren, Stanley, Elana, Hadleigh, and Grace; many special nieces and nephews; life-time friends, Bobby and Tanya Phillips and daughter, Brady; special friend, Sandra “Maw” Sanchez, and countless other friends and neighbors.
The Reed family would like to extend a special thank you to The Good Samaritan Hospice crew, Taylor, Shannon, Mallory, and others, that took exceptionally good care of “Momma” in her final days.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 2:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Bond officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm before the service.
“We Love You, Mom, Forever and Always.”
