Phillips, Terry Lynn 2Born into this world St. Patty’s day 1960, Terry Lynn Phillips enriched his family’s lives immediately. Terry told tales of growing up with his three brothers and neighbors that kept his children’s imaginations fascinated.

He was brought up with a strong work ethic and knew how to keep his hands busy. A man who was well known to always be on the go or had a chore to do.
Terry grew up in Christiansburg, graduating from CHS in 1978. He continued his education by becoming a machinist and began his career with Litton Poly Scientific where he met the love of his life and his wife of 40 years, Wanda. Their love grew, adding a daughter and a son to pass along his love and knowledge to. Terry along with Wanda worked to instill ethics and morals into their children. Terry had the family in the greenhouse at young ages, educated them on animal care, how to hunt, fish, and process their own food. He taught them how to be tough with a “rub some dirt on it” approach. These areas of his expertise are shared by his children, whom are teaching his grandchildren a legacy that will continue.

He was an excellent cook and enjoyed experimenting and smoking meats. He so enjoyed sharing these experiences with his grandchildren; making ice cream, cheeses, and any other concoction he thought up.

Terry had many friendships over the years, and each held their own importance in his life. His life was richer for their presence. You could have found Terry lending a hand with making apple butter, sausage, hay, or machining various pieces for farm equipment, to name a few.

He was a man whose personality and livelihood that couldn’t be abbreviated in an obituary. The stories, lessons, and experiences go beyond the words shared. Showing love from Terry meant making sure you left with an armful of goodies. His giving nature with forever be remembered.

Terry struggled with health issues for many years. It is unfortunate that this sick man fell from his important role of husband, father, and beloved PawPaw on September 14th.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, William Morris Phillips and Freeda Ratliff Phillips; and brother, Stephen Phillips.

He will be missed by many, but none more than his wife, Wanda; daughter, Laura (Dustin) Buckland; son, Corey (Brittany) Phillips; and grandbabies, Grayson Buckland and Emerson Phillips; brothers, Mike (Barbara) Phillips and Jeff (Kim) Phillips; sisters-in-law, Patricia Phillips, Debbie Higgs, Patricia (Sam) Wade; brother-in-law, Ron Higgs; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; one very spoiled and very loved dog, Jackie. However, he’d find it obnoxious we list her as a dog instead of a “little person”, as he often referred to her.

Terry has left a large, painful hole in their hearts. His presence will be missed much in this life. His 66 years on earth wasn’t ever going to be enough for his family.

We miss you.

Honoring Terry’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A private family graveside service will be conducted.
