Dunn, Evelyn Spangler
Evelyn Faye Dunn, 77, of Ballard, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, VA. Born on August 17, 1949, Evelyn’s life was marked by love, family, and the many memories she shared with those closest to her.
Life and Legacy
Evelyn lived a life centered on kindness, devotion, faith, and family. These qualities were at the heart of who she was. She believed she was saved through God’s grace and the love of His Son, Jesus Christ, and she carried that faith with quiet strength, hope, and peace. She was a member of the Ballard First Missionary Baptist Church and shared close ties with a large and loving family. Throughout her life, she held a variety of jobs and was known for her strong work ethic. She worked at The Dairy Bar in Ballard, WV, Sun Fresh Market in Peterstown, WV, and several other local businesses over the years. Through her work, she formed many lasting friendships and touched the lives of countless people in her community.
She found joy in the generations that surrounded her, from her children and grandchildren to her great-grandchildren, and her love will remain a lasting part of their lives. She was always willing to care for her family and loved ones whenever they needed her, offering her time, comfort, and steady support with an open heart. She will be remembered for the warmth she brought into the lives of others, the comfort she gave so freely, and the love she shared with family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Family
Above all, Evelyn loved her family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carl Dunn of Ballard, West Virginia; her son, Todd Dunn and wife Kay of Canonsburg PA; her daughter, Crystal Pitzer of Ballard; her grandchildren, Logan Dunn and wife Olivia of Hendersonville TN, Hannah Dunn of Bluefield WV, Landon Pitzer and Savannah Pitzer both of Ballard; her great-grandchildren, Charlotte Dunn, Keegan Shrader, and Callahan Dunn; her step-grandchildren, Kaleigh Fourie of Princeton WV, Kara Compton of Prosperity PA, Kristen Compton of Monterey CA; her step great-grandchildren, Jasmine Fourie and Kora Louis; her three brothers, Captain Ralph G. Spangler, Retired U.S. Navy, and wife Jewel of Peterstown, WV, Benny R. Spangler of Fairlea, WV, and Jerry Spangler and wife Angela of Peterstown, WV; two sisters, Eleanor Miller and husband Richard of Ballard, WV, and Brenda Mann and husband Bobby of Greenville, WV; special cousins, Jane Lester and Sue Pelts along with many cherished relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gaston Spangler Jr. and Trusbie Canterbury Spangler; her brother, Donald G. Spangler; her sisters, Agnes Ann Caldwell and Anna Jean McCraw; her nephew, Michael Spangler; her nieces, Donna Hedrick and Donna Jean Shaver; and her aunt, Mildred Spangler.
Services
A celebration of life for Evelyn Dunn will be announced on a later date.
Memorial Contributions
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that monetary contributions be made in Evelyn’s honor to First Missionary Baptist Church, Ballard WV.
