Potential Steam Ventilation at the VT Power Plant

On June 9, the university and surrounding Blacksburg community members may notice elevated noise levels in the proximity of the Virginia Tech Power Plant due to a possible need to vent steam.
If unseasonably warm conditions occur during this scheduled timeframe, it may be necessary for the power plant to vent steam produced by the boiler. This may produce water vapor that, depending upon environmental conditions, may appear to look like white smoke. If venting operations are necessary, there will likely be elevated noise levels in the area immediately surrounding the power plant as steam is released into the atmosphere.
All efforts will be made to reduce noise levels as much as possible. The Division of Facilities thanks the university community and local residents in advance for their patience and understanding.
