Haraf, Adam Joseph
Adam Joseph Haraf of Blacksburg Virginia passed away on January 7, 2026 at the age of 92 of heart and kidney disease. Born in Chicago to parents John and Francis Haraf on February 26, 1933 is survived by his wife Mary Ann Schroeder Haraf, sons Robert Haraf, Jeffery and Kim Haraf and was step-grandfather to Cory Martin and Halie Akers and Uncle to nephews Allan, Donny, Ronald, Jerry Haraf and niece Susan Kowalski.
Growing up in the Brighton Park area of Chicago he was one of five children in the family. He graduated from Kelly High School in 1952 and after spending time in the United States military service started employment at Western Electric / AT&T Telephone Plant on Western Ave in Chicago rising to the rank of Production Chief and eventually Supervisor.
He was married to Mary Ann Schroeder in June of 1962 living first in Bridgeview Illinois where his sons Robert and Jeffery would be born in 1963 and 1964 later settling down in the town of Clarendon Hills Illinois. Loving sports and being a member of a Chicago City Championship Little League baseball team in his teens he coached our little league team the Clarendon Hills Tigers to a championship season in 1974.
In 1983 the family moved to Blacksburg Virginia along with other Western Electric Supervisors to help with production and set-up of a new AT&T plant being built in the nearby town of Fairlawn Virginia where he remained employed until he retired in 1987. In his later years he enjoyed wood working, sports and various outdoor activities. Always helpful and joking he will be missed.
A memorial mass will be conducted, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:00 am, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow int he South West Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery.
