Fama, Gay Caldwell
Gay Caldwell Fama transitioned to Heaven into the arms of her loved ones on May 12th, 2026 in the state of Virginia. She was born on June 13, 1930, in Seattle Washington, to Vera and Arvel Caldwell. As the first of two children, she grew up in the Washington area alongside her younger sister Jeri who was born three years later, sharing a childhood filled with typical, fond memories.
In her mid- 20s, Gay met the love of her life John Hubbard. John loved her deeply and welcomed her two daughters into his life with open arms. Together John and Gay were blessed with two more children, a son named Casey and a daughter named Kelli. Though John’s life was cut short, the beautiful memories they created together remained a cherished comfort to Gay throughout her life.
Gay was a woman of immense strength, love, resilience and most importantly, proper manners-instilling those high standards into her own life and the lives of those she loved. She held unique impactful positions throughout her life that allowed her best qualities to shine. As a teenager, she stepped up to hold nursing duties during the WWII efforts. Later, she worked in Public Relations with the San Franciso 49ers to improve player and community relations, and showcased her amazing organizational skills as an Executive Assistant for Merrill Lynch.
However, the career choice where she shined the brightest was running her own diet center in San Mateo, California. There, she was able to truly help people from all walks of life meet their unique dietary and wellness needs.
Her dedication to etiquette was a cornerstone of the amazing woman she was. She especially emphasized to her family that one should always ask “ If someone is finished eating” instead of, “ Are you done?”
Among her most cherished memories as a young woman was being part of the Tri Delta Sorority, and she often spoke of the wonderful times and fun she had with her sorority sisters. She carried that deep love for connection into her own family, creating lasting memories during treasured times spent in the beautiful city of Lake Tahoe. Whether it was going for a boat ride out on the lake, enjoying lunch at Sunnyside with the grandchildren she loved so much, or engaging in family conversations with-of course-proper speech at the dinner table these moments were her truest joy.
Gay will be remembered as a woman who loved to dress up in attire that made her feel beautiful, always with a matching sun visor. She loved eating lamb and always made sure to sneak in special treats, especially a yummy ice cream bar. Her dedication to her family and her socialite heart, paired with her impeccable manners, define the legacy she leaves behind.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie, Dana and Kelli ; her grandchildren, Kristine, Brianna, Amie, Justin, and John ; and her seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, John and her cherished son, Casey.
Though she left this earthly realm, her spirit will remain forever in our hearts as she spends her days in Heaven with the ones who loved her the most.
