Robert E. “Bobby” Martin, age 73, of Christiansburg, VA, departed for his Heavenly Home surrounded by his cherished family on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Bobby was born July 20, 1953, in Bluefield, WV, to the late Robert L. Martin and Edna Ellison Martin. He had a lifelong passion for cars and spent many years in the automotive industry, beginning in automotive parts and eventually becoming general manager and co-owner of a Ford dealership. While proud of his work, his career was never his greatest achievement. Bobby’s true legacy lay in the love he gave so freely, the lives he touched, the children he helped raise, and the unwavering faith he carried throughout his life.

Bobby never met a stranger. He had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome, loved, and like family. His kindness was genuine, his heart was generous, and he freely gave his time, guidance, and affection to those around him. He opened his home and his heart to children who needed another source of love and encouragement, becoming a father figure who helped shape their lives.

A man of deep devotion, Bobby faithfully attended Tuesday Morning Church and treasured the fellowship of his brothers in Christ. He was immensely proud of his son and the man he has become, especially his son’s love for Christ and his dedication to sharing the Gospel through his radio ministry – a ministry that Bobby cherished and supported with great pride. His faith was not simply something he professed; it was something he lived. He loved God, loved people, and shared that warmth with everyone he encountered.

Bobby was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Karina Martin, who was by his side until the end; his son, Robert L. Martin of White Sulphur Springs, WV; his step-son, Harry Hoke of Barren Springs, VA; and his step-daughter, Jennifer Smith-Wyman of Polson, MT.

He is also survived by his sister, Geneva Via of Pearisburg, VA, and his brother, David Martin and his wife, Gloria, of Durham, NC.

In addition to his children, Bobby welcomed special nieces and nephews who held a treasured place in his life: Zoey Blankenship, Hailey Blankenship, Carson “Gavin” Blankenship, and little Adelita and Liliana. His love for them was freely given, and the impact he had on their lives will remain with them always. Special thanks are extended to his sister Geneva, his devoted niece Tina Dillon, and grandniece Kandis Jackson for their comforting presence as he transitioned to his heavenly home.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Martin, who gained her wings before he was born and his beloved sister, Drema Bailey.

Those who knew Bobby will remember his laugh, his kindness, his willingness to help, and the way he made them feel like they belonged. Though his earthly life has ended, he leaves behind a legacy not measured by titles or possessions, but by love, faith, family and the countless people who are better because he was part of their lives.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Reverend Neal Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Peterstown Cemetery in Rich Creek, VA. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Serving as pall bearers are Harry Hoke, Darrin Wikle, David Wikle, Dale Wikle, Malcom Dillon, and Cody Jackson. Honorary pallbearer is Carson “Gavin” Blankenship.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bobby’s memory to support his son’s radio gospel ministry (D.J. 4 God, 174 Terrace Drive, White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986).
