Simmons, John Bennett

John Bennett Simmons, affectionately known as “Tater John”, 53, of Bland, VA, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at his home. He was born August 29, 1972 in Giles County, the son of the late Benny & Vernie Mae Simmons.

“Tater John” attended church at the Wilderness Lighthouse Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed taking rides over Dismal. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennett Wayne & Vernie Mae Clemons Simmons; his brothers, Joe Simmons and Sammie Simmons, his sisters, Rita Johnson and Debbie Dinger and his nephew, Todd Simmons.

Left to cherish his memory are his brothers & sisters-in-law, David & Pat Simmons, Travis & Cindy Simmons and Mitchell Simmons; his sister & brother-in-law, Sharon & Mike Foglesong; his special pet companion, “Bob”; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Per his wishes, “Tater John” will be cremated. There are no public services planned.
