Laurie Lee Wilson-Hight, 61 of Christiansburg, passed away January 4, 2025. Laurie was preceded in death by her father, Charles C. Wilson; mother, Julieta Lagunas-Wilson; brother, Kurtz Wilson; sister, Charlene Wilson; and father-in-law, Walter L. Hight.
She is survived by her devoted and loving family – husband, Michael A. Hight; son, Joshua C. Hight; nephews, Danny Wilson and wife, Loretta, Roman Wilson and wife, Komal, Cameron Andrade and wife, Angelica; niece, Brittney Cannady and her husband, Stephen; sister, Suzette Wilson; brother-in-law and wife, Patrick and Rosa Hight, and their sons – nephews, Ethan, Elijah, and Zachary Hight; as well as other close family and friends.
Laurie was caring, sweet, kind-hearted, genuine, witty, welcoming, intelligent, articulate and a fiercely devoted and loving wife and mother. She radiated joy and kindness to everyone she encountered. She had a heart of gold and a beautiful smith – she was beautiful inside and out.
Laurie worked various jobs over the years. She was most proud of her work as an English Language Learner Instructor for the Avon Indiana School System. She loved advocating for and teaching children from all over the world. She would beam with pride when she talked about their successes. There she impacted the future of many young students and their parents and bonded with other teachers that shared her passion of helping students.
In their free time, Laurie and Mike loved to take walks with the dogs, travel, explore, cook, and spend quality time with family and friends.
Laurie’s hobbies were art, music, architecture, reading, nature, cooking, and her pets. She was a talented artist. A talent she passed on to her son Joshua. She loved to created art using watercolors, oils, and sketching. She also liked to make and work on jewelry.
Laurie enjoyed taking walks with Mike and the dogs, Rick, Gracie, and Red in the beautiful New River Valley neighborhood where they lived.
Services will be a private Celebration of Life. Family and friends can honor Laurie’s memory by being kind, understanding and loving one another like there is no tomorrow.
In lieu of flowers, Laurie would have requested a donation to your local animal shelter.
