WHAT…Heavy mixed winter precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 4 to 8 inches and ice accumulations up to one half an inch. Locally higher snow amounts north of I-64 west of Lexington. Locally higher ice amounts possible along the Blue Ridge Parkway. For Tazewell and Smyth counties, total snow and sleet accumulations between 3 and 6 inches and ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch are possible.

WHERE…Portions of northwest North Carolina, southwest and west central Virginia, and southeast West Virginia. WHEN…Until 4 PM EST Wednesday.

IMPACTS…Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
