Sutherland, Eva Ann Stowers
Eva Ann Stowers Sutherland, of Pulaski, Virginia, formerly of Springfield, Ohio, was born March 19, 1931, in Bland County, Virginia, to the late Floyd and Mary Stowers.
Eva was a strong, independent, and generous woman who loved her family deeply and was never afraid to speak her mind. She enjoyed a successful career, retiring as Chief of Civilian Pay at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio. She also worked for HEAT, Inc. in Springfield, Ohio.
Before her health declined, Eva enjoyed knitting, painting, reading, and traveling. She especially loved attending church and participating in church dinners. She attended Thornspring United Methodist Church and treasured the fellowship and friendships she found there.
Above all, Eva cherished her family and the special relationships she shared with those closest to her. Her strength, generosity, and outspoken personality will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Eva was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Sutherland; sister, Nan Hawk; and nephew, Bill Bellew.
Eva is survived by her loving family:
Daughter: Linda Ramsey of Dublin, Virginia
Grandson: Matthew Ramsey of Dublin, Virginia
Brother-in-law: Lenzie Hawk of Dayton, Ohio
Niece: Chairman Bellew of Dayton, Ohio
Close cousins: Shirley Meade of Rocky Gap, Virginia, and Juanita Dykes of Rural Retreat, Virginia
She is also survived by many other cousins throughout Virginia and West Virginia.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the many caregivers at ACG Hospice for the wonderful care, kindness, and compassion they provided Eva throughout her illness.
In accordance with Eva’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, George, at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia.
Eva will be remembered for her unwavering strength, generous heart, love of family, and the lasting memories she leaves behind.
