Sumner, Allen Payton

Allen Payton Sumner, 86, of Christiansburg entered Heaven’s gate on August 25, 2026. Allen loved his country and served in the Army National Guard for 6 years.

He was a loving dad, grandpa, and brother who cherished his family. He will forever be missed. Allen was born July 26, 1940, to the late Paul Sr. and Mary Woolwine Sumner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Ann Graham and Dorothy Bishop; and brother, Ralph Sumner.
He is survived by his brother, Paul Sumner, Jr.; sons, Michael (Krissy) Janney, Allen (Diane) Sumner, Jr., Robert Wilson, and Wayne Wilson; daughter, Crystal (Timmy) Potts; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Mandy and Alexis at Carilion Hospice for their love and support and care for Allen. Also, a special thanks to Pastor Steve and Lou Akers for all of the visits, prayers, and support for Allen and the entire family. Per Allen’s wishes there will be no services.
