RSVP Walk-A-Thon benefits Seniors

RSVP Walk-A-Thon benefits Seniors 4RSVP of Montgomery County and Radford held a Walk-A-Thon to benefit the 15th annual Supplies for Seniors. The event was held on Friday, October 28 from 10 am -12 pm at the Christiansburg Recreation Center.

In January 2023, the RSVP Supplies for Seniors project will provide many homebound seniors and veterans with personal and household supplies when bad weather and high heating bills increase their hardship level. Brad Epperley, Director of the Christiansburg Recreation Center, led the first lap and 12 RSVP volunteers and community members walked 299 laps or 37 miles to kick off the Supplies for Seniors fundraising event. To date, $2,773 has been collected.

Congratulations to those who won prizes during the event:

  • $100 BP Gas Card (donated by Remon Yassa) for the most laps walked by an individual – Steve Huppert
  • $50 Gift Card for the largest amount raised by an individual – Sharon Brown
  • $25 Gift Card for the best costume – Barbara Parrish

We would like to recognize the businesses/organizations in the photo for sponsoring the event.  We would also like to thank Tammy Caldwell of the Christiansburg Recreation Center for providing lunch during the Walk-A-Thon and Carilion NRV Medical Center for donating bottled water.

We are requesting monetary donations; however, we will accept donations of needed items during the month of November. For more information, please call 382-5775 or email rsvp@montgomerycountyva.gov .
