Parks, Sr., Walter David 4Walter David Parks, Sr., of Blacksburg Va., died at his home on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. David was born to Annabelle and Everette Parks on June 19, 1946, in Hoges Chapel, Va.

After high school, David joined the Air Force and spent two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in August of 1971. David was a graduate of New River Community College and Bluefield College, and he also attended Radford University. He was employed by the Town of Blacksburg Police Department from August 1971 until his retirement in 2006. David also spent 15 years employed by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, and living a healthy lifestyle. Until his death, David enjoyed being a marshall at “The Hill” golf course in Blacksburg.

He is survived by his wife; Joyce Pearson Parks, sons, Wally and Ellis Parks; grandsons, Quinn and Aiden Parks; sisters, Margaret Ross, of Roanoke, Va., and Molly Saunders, of Pembroke, Va. David is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents David was preceded in death by one grandson, Dawson Parks, two brothers, Everette and John, and one sister Diana.

David was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Pembroke, where he served as Church clerk, an usher, and Sunday school teacher.

Memorial services will be held on, Monday, September 11, 2023, at 6:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Pembroke, Va. With the Reverend Turner officiating. The family is being served by McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg, Va.
