With heavy hearts, but immense gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth Booth Midkiff on July 19, 2026.
For nearly 65 years, Mary shared an extraordinary love story with her devoted husband, Gary Midkiff, whose unwavering companionship was the foundation of a lifetime of cherished memories. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, unconditional love, and countless family traditions that will continue for generations.
Mary’s greatest joy was her family. She was the proud and loving mother of Karen Hill of Christiansburg, Virginia; Barbara Quesenberry and her husband, Charlie Quesenberry, of Rich Creek, Virginia; and Jessica Vanscavish and her husband, Rodney Vanscavish, of Hellertown, Pennsylvania.
She was a treasured grandmother to Dustin Quesenberry and his fiancée, Margee Ragsdale; Shaun Quesenberry and his wife, Savannah Quesenberry; Eden Hill; and Raina Hill. Her heart grew even fuller with the arrival of her beloved great-granddaughter, River Quesenberry, who brought her immeasurable pride and happiness.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, David and Bertha Booth; her brothers, David Booth, Dennis Booth, and James Henry Booth; and her sister, Willie Louise Booth Wilson.
Mary had a remarkable gift for making every person who entered her home feel welcomed, valued, and deeply loved. Her kitchen was the heart of the house, where family gathered around the table to enjoy meals prepared with love. Whether it was a holiday feast or an ordinary dinner, everyone left her table feeling nourished in both body and spirit.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Mary was an avid reader who could lose herself in the pages of a good book for hours. She also had a competitive streak that delighted everyone who knew her especially during a game of Yahtzee. Those who challenged her quickly learned that beating Mary at Yahtzee was no easy feat.
Mary’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, unwavering devotion to family, and a love that knew no bounds. She taught those around her that life’s greatest treasures are found not in possessions, but in time spent together, meals shared, laughter echoed around the table, and the quiet acts of caring that make a house a home.
Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her family finds comfort in the countless memories she created and the love she poured into each of their lives. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and generous heart will forever remain with all who were blessed to know her.
A Celebration of Life honoring Mary’s life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages everyone to honor Mary’s memory by gathering with loved ones, sharing a home-cooked meal, reading a favorite book, planting some flowers, or playing a spirited game of Yahtzee keeping alive the traditions and love that meant so much to her.
Mary’s love was her greatest gift, and that gift will continue to live on in every life she touched.
