Clark, Jr., Vincent Joseph

Clark, Jr., Vincent Joseph 2Vincent Joseph Clark, Jr., lovingly known to his family as “Pawpaw” passed away on July 5, 2026, at the age of 84 after a brief illness.

Vincent was born at 5:21 a.m. on February 2, 1942 at The Staten Island Hospital in New York City, New York to his parents — Vincent Joseph Clark and Lois Perkins Clark. Vincent was welcomed into the world by his two older sisters, Lou and Molly and was later joined by his loving and devoted younger brother, Milton.

Vincent’s early childhood on Staten Island was dramatically changed when his father was drafted into the United States Army in the Spring of 1944. A cherished family photo shows Vincent, his mother and father, and his siblings, sitting around their kitchen table on the eve of his father’s shipping out to Europe. On October 9, 1944, Vincent’s father – PFC Vincent J. Clark was killed in action in the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest. Throughout his life, Vincent held sacred his father’s resting place at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium. Following his father’s death, Vincent’s mother relocated the family to Lynchburg, Virginia where he grew up with his siblings and attended E.C. Glass High School graduating in 1960. Vincent also attended Ferrum College and Lynchburg College.

Like his father before him, Vincent proudly served his country by enlisting in 1960 in the Army National Guard of Virginia as a medical aidman obtaining the rank of Specialist Four (E-4) in HHC, 2nd Battalion, 116th Infantry and an honorable discharge.

Vincent married the love of his life, Evelyn Slone Clark, on November 24, 1971, beginning a 54-year partnership built on family, faith, love, laughter, and adventure together. Vincent also went on to build a long and successful career at the Lynchburg Foundry, where he started his professional career in 1963. Vincent’s devotion to his co-workers and his strength of character are reflected by the many friends he made at the Foundry, culminating with his serving in the role of General Manager at Lynchburg Foundry’s Radford facility.

Once retired in 2001, Vincent and Evelyn set out to see the world – from Australia to Europe, travel became one of the great joys of his life. Whether near or far from home, he brought along the same quiet sense of humor that drew people to him wherever he went — the kind that didn’t need to be loud to be remembered.

Vincent’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted servant of his church, finding deep meaning in his worship and in the community he built there. His quiet, steadfast faith guided him through every season of life and was a source of strength for his family, who watched him live it out each day.

Above all, Vincent was a generous, loving, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He found his greatest joy in his family, and that love was returned to him many times over.

Vincent is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Slone Clark and the following children and grandchildren: (i) his daughter, Suzanne Clark Morrow with her husband, Dr. John Morrow and their children Kelsey with her husband, Andrew Fontenot, Mattie with her husband, Dan Myers, Holly, and Sarah; (ii) his son, Vincent Joseph Clark, III and his children Emily and Gracie; (iii) his son, Andrew Clark with his wife, Jennifer Clark and their children Virginia and Eliza; and (iv) his son, Richard Clark with his wife, Lizzie Clark and their children Latham and Molly. Vincent is also survived by his brother, Milton Clark with his wife, Diane Clark. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a great grandson, and friends far and wide – all of whom will greatly miss him. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lou and Molly, and his parents, Vincent and Lois.

Pawpaw’s quiet humor, steady love, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a family shaped by his kindness and a legacy of a life well and fully lived.
