Bland, Sue Ratcliffe

Carol Sue Ratcliffe Bland, 76, of Pearisburg, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 25, 2023, at her home. Sue was born on February 26, 1947, in Narrows, VA and was a daughter of the late Wirt Jackson Ratcliff and Ida Caperton Ratcliff. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Michael “Mickey” David Bland, 5 brothers, Jennings, Bob, Bill, Gene and Jerry Ratcliff.

Sue was a graduate of Narrows High School Greenwave. She became a CNA, working for several nursing homes, the last being Princeton Health Care. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, camping, sewing and watching VA Tech football and basketball. She was a longtime member of Cornerstone Pentecostal Church serving with the Missionettes and the Royal Rangers kid’s programs.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Lois Blankenship (Randy) of Narrows, Janet Sexton (Frankie) of Pearisburg, Jenny Pennington (Tony) of Narrows, 6 grandchildren, Randy Blankenship, Tiffany Burton, April Nicholson, Timmy Pennington, David Pennington, Michael Pennington, 16 great grandchildren and 2 sisters-in-law, Bobbie Ratcliff, Virginia Mae Stafford, bonus daughter, Angie Jennelle of Narrows and many, many nieces and nephews including special cousin and helpers, Alvie and Mary Hodge.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 1pm at Cornerstone Pentecostal Church in Narrows with Pastor Tony Robertson officiating with burial in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. The family will receive friends at the church 1 hour before the service from 12 – 1pm.
