4/25: Daniel Adam Maltz in Concert
This Saturday, the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley and Pulaski Theatre will welcome fortepianist Daniel Adam Maltz from Vienna, Austria to Pulaski, VA.
Described as “the foremost performer in the world of the fortepiano” (Aspen Daily News), Maltz brings a rare and deeply expressive musical experience, offering audiences the opportunity to hear works by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven on the instrument for which they were originally composed.

An Instrument from Another Time:
The fortepiano, developed in the early 1700s, is the direct predecessor to the modern piano and was the primary keyboard instrument of the Classical era. Its lighter construction, featuring a wooden frame, leather-covered hammers, and lower string tension, produces a sound that is more transparent and responsive than that of a modern concert grand.
This clarity allows individual notes to stand out distinctly, while the instrument’s quicker decay supports precise articulation and phrasing, offering a different perspective on familiar repertoire.
