McMahan, Carol Akers
Carol Fay Akers McMahan went home to be with our Lord Jesus on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Born on Thursday, November 4, 1943, in Shawsville, VA, she was the daughter of the late George Harvey and Sally Mae Green Akers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded home by siblings, John (Naomi) and Charles (Betty), Gene, Junior and “angel baby” Akers, Myrtle (Ike) Martin, Ann (Dayton) Vest, Alice (Ed) Martin, Josephine (T.R.) Vest, and Juanita Underwood, and her former husband and father of her children, Clarence R. McMahan.
Carol was a 1963 graduate of Shawsville High School in Shawsville, VA. Most of her working career was spent assisting people with special needs. Carol’s work in the foster grandparent program at the Peterstown school for 10 years was her very favorite and the occupation that gave her so much joy. The lives she touched were many and she loved each one. Carol had many special friends. She loved her yearly trips to Goshen with dear friends until she was no longer able to go. It was a joyful time for her.
It made her so happy when one of her “kids” would greet her in public, and she saw at least one about every time she went on an outing. She was very sad to give it up during Covid.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Joyce (Russell) Wilson of Willow Bend and Lisa (Virgil) Wallace of Lindside; her beloved grandchildren, John B. Morefield of Gap Mills, Carol A. Wallace and Amber L. Wallace, both of Lindside; step grandsons, Brandon (Ashley) and Kurt Wilson (Julie) of Mountain City, TN; great grandchildren, Solomon Morefield, Leah Little, Ethan Wilson, Avery Wilson, Alex and Marino Espinoza. She was also loved by many nieces and nephews.
Carol was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, and will be missed by many. We LOVE you mom and will see you in Heaven.
