Gillespie, Brenda Thomas

Brenda Ann Gillespie, age 61, of Ballard, WV, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA, surrounded by family. Born June 5, 1963, in Pearisburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Joe Oscar Thomas and Mildred Grace Smith Thomas.

Brenda was a member of the Cashmere Baptist Church for 26 years and served as Sunday School Secretary. She was a loving mother who cared for her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She loved working in her flower garden, shopping, and traveling. She enjoyed participating in the different functions of the Ballard Fire Department. She worked 21 years for the U.S. Postal service, spending the last 9 years at the Narrows Post Office. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Thomas; and her sister, Sharon Wood.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Mike Gillespie; daughter, Brittany Lilly and Joshua; son, Craig Gillespie and Hope; sister, Peggy Dolbow and Harry; brothers-in-law, Wayne Gillespie and Sandy, and Billy Wood; grandchildren, Caleb Lilly, Kelly Lilly, and Corban Gillespie; nieces and nephews, Elisha Edgell and David, Cassie Miller and Corey, Shannon Dolbow, Zack Wood and Brittany, Dustin Dolbow and Hailey, Kelsie Spencer and Caleb, and Braxton Dolbow; great nieces and nephews, Deegan Edgell, Cora Edgell, Avery Miller, Kendall Miller, Rylee Miller, Morgan Wood, Gatlin Dolbow, Lincoln Dolbow, baby girl Dolbow, and Slaton Spencer; her aunt, Marilyn Greer and Ricky; and many special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Walt Bonnell and Pastor J.W. Ellison officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Memorial Gardens in Lindside, WV. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
