Williams, Walter George
Walter George Williams, 82 of Newport, VA departed this life at his home on June 4, 2022. Born in Giles County, Virginia on May 13, 1940, he was a son of the late Burtle Songer and Mary Agnes Williams Songer.
Walter worked in transportation services at Virginia Tech to assist with his family. Walter loved his family, riding through the mountains, and cutting wood.
In addition to his parents, Walter is preceded in death by a son, Dewayne Williams; daughter, Sandra Lynn Williams; sisters, Thelma Louise Songer Dowdy, and Barbara McGuire; and brothers, Bob Songer, and Edward “Beck” Songer.
Left to cherish his memory to their hearts are his wife, Mary Ann Williams; sons, Curtis Williams (Corinna) of Pembroke; George Benton Williams (Delores) of Newport; daughters, Wanda Dianne Griggs (Billy) of Eggleston, and Donna Collins (David Robertson) of Pearisburg; grandchildren, John Christopher Collins (Aloria), JD Williams (Tiffany), Daniel Williams (Roxie), Billy “BJ” Williams (Teresa), Curtis Williams II (Cassie), Sandra Williams, and George Benton Williams II; a special granddaughter, Kimberly Donathan (Dale); great-grandchildren, Emmalee Williams, Chloe Williams, Landon Williams, Chandler Williams, Skyler Williams, David Roseberry, Jase Roseberry, Alison Roseberry, Stella G Collins, Christopher Scott Collins, Lucas Wade Williams, Easton Wayne Collins, Amelia Hope Collins, Eli Collins, Brady Collins, Riley Collins, Addison Collins, Ivy Collins, Willa Mae Williams, Abby Williams, Alex Williams, Gabe Williams, William Douglas Neice, Kaylynn Dawn Neice, Chase Robertson, Chance Robertson, and Elijah Arrington; a great-great granddaughter, Quinn Robertson; brother, Steve Songer (Eloise) of Newport; and sister, Cassie Gail Carter (Jerry) of Blacksburg.
There will be a funeral service conducted on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 1:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will conclude at Birchlawn Burial Park with Military Honors.
