Sparks, Rickey Wayne

Rickey Wayne Sparks, 80, of Peterstown, WV, passed away peacefully at home of Wednesday, September 9, 2026, returning home to our Lord.
Rickey was born on September 23, 1945, in McComas, Mercer County, WV, to the late Joseph “Wattie” Sparks and Hazel Barlow Sparks.

Rickey was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 60 years, Mary Maxine Sparks; and two children, Tina Sparks Thomas (Douglas), and Wayne Sparks; two granddaughters, Lauren Brooke Wills, and Nichole Copenhaver and husband Tristan; one great granddaughter, Lilly Jane Copenhaver; brothers, Joe Sparks (Mary), Fred Sparks (Frances), Dean Sparks (Anita); and sister, Janie Sparks.

Rickey was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer Sparks (Opal), Donnie Sparks (Sandy), Bob Sparks (Sharon), Carl Sparks (Joyce), Douglas Sparks (Pam), Stanley Sparks (Peggy); and sisters, Evelyn “Jell” Repass, Edna Ruth “Sue” Repass, and Mildred Jean Dillo (Eugene). He has a host of nephews and nieces who he loved greatly. He has a special brother-in-law, Johnny Blevins, and his best friend, Larry and Bibbi Sigman.

Rickey was employed in the CA Department of Celanese in Narrows, VA, where he retired after twenty-eight years of service. He loved fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. One of his favorite things to do was being with his brothers and friends listening to music and talking about great childhood and early adult memories.

There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
