Spangler, Bobbie Comer
Bobbie Jean (Comer) Spangler, 95, of Scott Depot, WV, went home to be with her Lord on August 17, 2022. She is formerly a resident of Peterstown, WV, where she lived 72 years. She is the daughter of the late Howard E. and Lula C. Comer of Lindside, WV. Preceding her in death along with her parents were her brother, H E Comer, Jr. and sister-in-law, Pauline R. Comer, and her devoted husband of 62 years, Charles L. “Coonie” Spangler.
BJ (as she was sometimes called) attended Concord College and UVA School of Nursing. She was a member and past president of the Peterstown Women’s Club and was a member at large of the Peters Mountain Chapter of the DAR. BJ was an active member of the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church for many years, being the oldest member until her death. At PMBC, BJ was a Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Kathleen Hamm Circle and a past member of the American Baptist Women’s Board. She was an avid bridge player, wrote many cards and notes to people “just because she thought they might need them”, was the oldest member of her family’s football pool, and a big Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy fan!!!
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted son, Michael Howard “Sarge” Spangler of Scott Depot, WV, her devoted daughter, Lucinda Jean “Cindy” Spangler Adkins of Washington, DC, three grandchildren, Jeanie Catherine Adkins & Maggie, and Jeanie’s dad, Eddie Adkins & Jeff all of Annapolis, MD, Michael Luck Spangler of Frazier’s Bottom, WV, Kelley Ann Spangler of Scott Depot, WV, and their mother, Valerie Spangler Green & Van also of Scott Depot.
Very dear to Bobbie Jean are her brother’s children, Ann Griffin & Patrick of Chapel Hill, NC, Kay Comer & Mike Donovan (“The Captain”) of Vero Beach, FL, Lea Anderson of Burke, VA, and Howard E. Comer, III & Lori of Durham, NC. Also are great nephew, James Griffin & Laura, Great niece, Catherine Griffin all of Chapel Hill, NC, and great nephew, Christopher Anderson & Kathryn of Burke, VA. Special cousins are Phyllis & Denny Ferguson of Peterstown, WV, and Angie Ferguson Graham of Narrows, VA.
Very special friends are her caregiver of 15 years, Joyce Wickline and Ronnie of Ballard, WV, Joyce Perry and Jim of Peterstown, WV, and Coy Nichols of Peterstown, WV.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, officiated by Reverend Jon Jennings. Visitation will be from 11:00AM until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in Wikel, WV.
Pall Bearers are John Terry, T E Ballard, Ronald Reed, Keith Boggess, Rick Jones, and Jamie Wickline.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Peterstown Food Bank at Peterstown Methodist Church or Hubbard Hospice House West of South Charleston.
