Smith, Janie Price
Elizabeth Price “Janie” Smith, age 97, of Blacksburg died, Thursday, October 8, 2026. She was born in the Smithfield House on Smithfield Plantation on January 9, 1929, to the late Lawrence Radford and Margaret Alls Price.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paris Elliott Smith; daughter, Linda Surface; son, Terry Smith; grandson, David Burton; and three brothers, Radford Price, Jackie Price, and Howard Price.
Her first job was at Corner Drug in Downtown Blacksburg, where she met her husband, then she worked at the Print Shop at Virginia Tech. After that she became a stay-at-home mom for several years with her children. She began cleaning houses for Mrs. Kline, who was Buster’s first grade teacher, which turned into her cleaning homes all over Blacksburg. She began working at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant for about six years and after that she went back to cleaning houses again. In 1980, she began parking cars on her lawn and the lot next door on Houston Street, for the Virginia Tech Football games.
She is survived by her sons, Paris “Buster” Smith (Patricia “Pat”), Wayne Smith (Amy), Jimmy Smith (Sherry); grandchildren, Lisa, Wayne, Karen, Bryant, Ashley, Jamey, Corey, David, and Sidney; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Moore; and brother, William Price; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 11:00 am in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends J.B. Beane and Gary McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, on Monday, October 12, 2026, at McCoy Funeral Home.
