Simpkins, Leonard Ray

Leonard “Ray” Simpkins, 92 of Pearisburg, VA departed this life July 18, 2023 in the care of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born October 13, 1930 in Mercer County, WV he was a son of the late Leonard Preston Simpkins and Vivian Thornton Simpkins.

Ray first served his country as a soldier in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He would continue in service as he came home to build a family. For years he worked at Moog as a custodian. He also enjoyed baseball, and fishing. He practiced his faith in attendance at Ingram Village United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Elaine and Dan Ruano of Radford, VA, David Simpkins of Orange County, Virginia, Diann and Robert Songer of Pearisburg, VA, Ray and Renee Simpkins of Pembroke, VA, Stanley “Choo-Choo” and Judy Simpkins of Pembroke, VA, and Donald and Sandra Simpkins of Pembroke, VA; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his twin sister, Faye Williams; sister, Virginia Ziolla; and companion, Ada French.

Family will receive friends at Kendall Funeral Home on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be conducted in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 7:00 PM. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
