Maxey, Harold E.

Maxey, Harold E. 4Harold E. Maxey, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, peacefully departed this life in his home on April 28, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was 85 years old.

Born on September 1, 1938, in Narrows, VA, he was the son of the late Lee Calvin and Virgie Lake Sarver Maxey. During his teenage years Harold grew up in Maybrook, VA, where he would later meet the love of his life Peggy. Harold and Peggy embarked on an extraordinary journey together, celebrating a remarkable 66 years of marriage.

Harold and Peggy created a wonderful life of cherished memories together, nurturing a legacy of love and devotion that will endure for generations. From camping at Claytor Lake to peaceful evenings on their porch, and bedtime conversations recapping their day, their connection remained unshakable, a testament to the depth of their affection.

Harold devoted many years to his career as a forklift operator at Celanese, eventually retiring from the company. Outside of his work duties and tending to the garden, he discovered solace and delight in the company of his wife and family at Covey’s Family Campground. There, pontoon rides and fishing adventures became family favorites. Recognized for his constant handkerchief and steadfast timepiece, Harold’s essence was as dependable as the steady tick of his watch.

During his leisure time, Harold took pleasure in the simple joys of life, whether savoring a meal of fish at Captain D’s, cheering on his beloved teams in baseball and football, or reveling in the timeless melodies of classic country music.

Harold’s heart overflowed with kindness and compassion, his willingness to extend a helping hand to those in need leaving a lasting mark on the lives he touched. While his physical presence may be absent, the love and memories he shared will continue to resonate within the hearts of his beloved family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 1 sister. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Peggy Maxey of Narrows, his daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Richard Ross of Pearisburg, his son and daughter-in-law Gary and Dottie Maxey of Narrows, his daughter Linda Maxey Snider of Narrows, his son and daughter-in-law Ronnie and Linda Maxey of Pearisburg, his granddaughter and husband Rheannon and Joeseph Dudding of Pearisburg, granddaughter and husband Deanna and Johnny Burton of Eggleston, grandson Josh Snider of Narrows, granddaughter and husband Carmonita and Josh Lambert of Boones Mill, granddaughter and husband Jamie and Chris Stevers of Pearisburg, granddaughter and husband Krystal and Wayne Covey of Pulaski, granddaughter and husband Ciara and Davy Price of Pearisburg, along with 24 great-grandkids, and 1 great-great-grandkid, who will carry forth his legacy with profound love and reverence.
