Phone Scam Alert

We’ve received reports of a phone scam, in which callers are claiming to be law enforcement and informing victims that a warrant has been issued against them for failing to appear for jury duty. These callers typically tell the victims they must pay a fine to avoid jail time.

The callers will sometimes spoof phone numbers – so that caller ID shows a government office – and then identify themselves by the names of actual, local law enforcement officials.

Please be aware that a law enforcement agency would never request credit/debit card information from you. If you receive a call of this nature, do NOT give the caller any money. Call your local police and make a report. If you are unsure if a call is real or not, end the call and contact your local agency directly. Do not hit re-dial or call the number that appeared on your caller ID’
