David William Peoples, 60, of White Gate, VA, departed this life after being tragically struck by a careless driver on Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2022. David was born in Giles County on August 17, 1962 to the late Charles Ralph & Josephine Finley Peoples. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Peoples and one sister, Margarette Peoples.

Surviving are his three brothers, Joe Peoples, John Peoples and Richard Peoples, all of White Gate, VA; one sister & brother-in-law, Martha & Isiah McClanahan, of Pulaski, VA; one niece, Lotoshia Newman, of Pulaski, VA; two great nieces, Nevaeh Newman & Nivea Newman; and step-mother, Valynda Hash Peoples.

David attended Giles High School and was an employee of Goodwill Industries for over forty years. He was known to many as Dave, Davey and Homie and referred to as “my walker” by his niece. David was a very unique individual, always very kind, with a smile that would light up the room. David was a wanderer. His daily activities always included getting a ride, meeting new people and, of course, enjoying a can of dip, an ice cold Mountain Dew, a good ol’ hot dog and French fries and the occasional cup of coffee with lots of sugar. Let’s not forget he would be happy to accept a dollar or two as well. David had a love for music, fishing, building and helping others with farm work. He also wouldn’t hesitate to tell you about the weather, the animals he has seen on his walk, the neighborhood news or some crazy story about a random animal he swore he ate at some point in his life.

The Peoples family would like to thank everyone who has played a part in David’s life; rather you gave him a lift, bought him something, or just simply said a prayer, we appreciate and are very thankful for you. Thank you to the Virginia State Police, Carilion Giles Community Hospital and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Mountain View Trauma ICU Unit for all life saving measures and care during David’s last days here on Earth.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Rev. Randall Lawrence, Sr. and Pastor Randall Lawrence, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Peoples Family Cemetery, White Gate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 P.M. until service time, 2:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in David’s honor directly to A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, 2508 Walkers Creek Valley Rd., Pearisburg, VA 24134 to help offset funeral expenses.

The White Gate Community will host a pot luck compassion meal at the White Gate Community Center following the services where friends and family can come together in fellowship to share stories and memories with David’s family.
