Juneteenth Remembrance & Community Gathering

Historic Smithfield presents their Annual Juneteenth Remembrance & Community Gathering on Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Merry Oak.

Juneteenth Remembrance & Community Gathering 2This gathering honors the more than 200 individuals who were enslaved at Greater Smithfield, whose names deserve to be spoken aloud. Join us for remarks by Blacksburg Town Councilman Darryl Campbell, a community reading of those names, and music by the Blacksburg Master Chorale. A community potluck featuring dishes from historic African American cookbooks follows at the Pavilion.

The Blacksburg Master Chorale is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing quality, affordable musical performances to the New River Valley and surrounding communities.

The Blacksburg Master Chorale engages audiences and patrons with musically vivid performances of classical and traditional choral works. We intend to “inflame the coldest heart” to experience the full beauty and intensity of this rich music with works both new and old, spanning the history of choral music.
