Furrow, William Michael
William Michael ”Mike” Furrow of Newport, Virginia passed away on May 5, 2026. He was born on November 27, 1953 to Clarence W. Furrow and Minnie W. Furrow.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Mary L. Furrow; daughters, Crystal F. Katovsich (Tom), and Whitney M. Furrow (Troy Abbate). Mike had ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild : Daniel, Thomas, Ty, and Drew (Dave and Christy Remington); Nathaniel, Clay, and Chris (Steve and Missy Remington); Eleanor and Harriet (Tom and Crystal Katovsich); Theodore (Troy and Whitney Abbate); and Millie (Chris and Maggie Remington).
Mike was an adventurous man who enjoyed traveling, riding his four-wheeler, and spending time with his family. He thoroughly enjoyed going on long ATV rides with his buddies where they would often ride all the way into West Virginia. He was a Mr. Fix-It. Mary and Mike enjoyed traveling and camping together. They were always up for an adventure and their love of the outdoors allowed them to have many fun and exciting experiences. Their dog, Cooper, was their partner in crime – joining in on the fun. Mike’s passing has left a hole that can never be filled. He leaves behind cherished friends, most of whom he’s known for decades. He was a pillar in the Newport community and was respected and loved by all he interacted with. Mike led an extraordinary life and made so many unforgettable memories. He was truly one in a million! Mike’s daughters grew up riding four-wheelers and go carts, and having the opportunity to have an adventurous childhood because of him. He took being a Dad seriously.
During his career as a fire fighter, Mike served as Fire Chief in the Newport Volunteer Fire Department. He also proudly served in the Chesapeake Fire Department before his career-long stay as a firefighter with Hercules. The characteristics that were required to be a fighter were characteristics that Mike had in abundance. He was a self-less man who enjoyed helping others.
William Michael Furrow, Dad, Pawpaw will be missed dearly as he filled such a big space in his loved one’s lives. He is at peace now and residing in his heavenly home.
Until we meet again, We Love You.
