Eaton, JoAnn Meredith 4JoAnn Meredith Eaton, 86, went to be with the Lord on August 30, 2023. JoAnn was a strong and independent person, who had a positive and happy outlook on life. She was happiest when surrounded by and taking care of her family. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

She was an army wife for 21 years until she and her husband returned home to settle in Ripplemead, VA. After returning home JoAnn worked for the Marriott Hotel in Blacksburg starting out in housekeeping and worked her way up to Supervisor of Housekeeping. She later went on to become Director of Housekeeping/Laundry at the original Giles Memorial Hospital where she worked for 20 years until she retired in 2002. During her retirement as she did throughout her life she enjoyed spending time with her family especially during weekly Sunday dinners, playing cards and games with the grandchildren and great grandchildren, shopping on the weekends, taking care of her flowers and gardens, among many others.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Raymond Meredith; brothers Floyd “Bud” Meredith and Raymond “Sonny” Meredith; sister Elsie Dowdy; daughter Cynthia “Cindy” Hixon.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 67 years, Ernest “Doug” Eaton; daughter Tammy Roach; sisters Carol Jean “Curly” Morrison, Helen “Margie” Scott, and Dorence Simpson; grandchildren William Hixon and fiancé Danielle Bratsis, Daniel Roach, Cassandra Dirico and her husband Alex Dirico, and Jacob Roach; great grandchildren Desirai and Aubbie Hughes, and Wyatt Hixon.

There will be a funeral service conducted on Monday, September 4, 2023 at 12:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home with Eddie Kendall speaking. The funeral services will conclude with a burial at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA. The family will receive friends on Monday, Sept 4, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Kendall Funeral Home.
