Dunford, Leda McGuire 7

Dunford, Leda McGuire 8Leda Jo Dunford, a cherished soul whose life was a testament to love, faith, and dedication, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, surrounded by the comforting embrace of her beloved family in her hometown Pembroke, Virginia. Born on October 25, 1943, nearby her beloved community, Leda’s journey was one of joy, resilience, and unwavering spirit.

Leda’s life was marked by a profound love for her husband of 61 years, Harvey “Tink” Dunford. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, support, and mutual respect. Their enduring partnership was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew them. The legacy of their love lives on in their sons, Christopher Dunford and his wife Cherie of Pembroke, and Tim Dunford of Greeneville, Tennessee. Leda’s joy was multiplied with the birth of her grandchildren, CJ Dunford and Chelsea Burton, along with her husband Chris, and she was blessed to see the sparkle in the eyes of her great-grandchildren, Bella Burton, Capri Burton, and Wyler Burton.

Though she is preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Pauline Snidow McGuire; her brother, Charles McGuire; and her great-granddaughter, Emarie Burton, Leda’s memory will continue to be a guiding light for her family. Her presence was a comforting constant, and her absence will be deeply felt.

Leda’s professional life was marked by a remarkable tenure at Celanese, where she worked in the twisting department for 35.5 years. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to her community and the various associations she was involved with. Leda’s contributions were not only through her labor but also through her caring spirit and willingness to help others.

A woman of deep faith, Leda loved Jesus with all her heart. Her Bible was not just a book but a companion that she turned to for wisdom, solace, and celebration. Her faith was her compass, guiding her through life’s challenges and joys. She lovingly shared this faith with her family and all who crossed her path, leaving a legacy of spiritual richness and devotion. She faithfully attended church with the family of faith at Journey to Glory in Pembroke, Virginia.

Leda’s interests were a reflection of her loving nature. She found beauty and joy in flowers, which she tended with the same care she gave to her relationships. Her hands were rarely still, as she created warmth and beauty through crocheting. Her cooking brought people together, and her handwritten letters kept them connected across distances.

Known for her loving and thoughtful demeanor, Leda was the embodiment of faith-filled living. She touched many lives with her kindness and left a mark on the world that will not be forgotten. Leda’s love and legacy are indeed an indelible part of all who knew her. As we bid farewell to Leda Jo Dunford, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart generously shared. Her spirit, characterized by love and thoughtfulness, will continue to shine in the memories of her family and friends.
