Bohlin, David Nelson

Bohlin, David Nelson 2David Bohlin of Blacksburg, VA, passed away on Saturday August 29th. The son of Dick and Bette Bohlin, David spent his entire life in his beloved Blacksburg and was a proud 1983 graduate of Blacksburg High School. He settled on Meadowbrook Dr. when he married Kim Shaver in 1994.

David had a love of people and served others in many ways over the years: driving school and transit buses; working for Senior Services; directing calls as a dispatcher for the Christiansburg Police Department; volunteering for the Blacksburg Rescue Squad; and driving medical transport vehicles for Guardian and VA Premier.

David and Kim have always enjoyed animals and he doted on their chosen four legged children. Dave never met an animal he didn’t love.

Always abreast of local news and events, David could inform you of new rules, the latest on construction in town, and how local events were unfolding. As his siblings moved away, he was a reliable link to VA weather, marriages, births, deaths, and changes in the hometown. Dave engaged in conversation with everyone he met along the way! His gentle spirit easily created friends wherever he traveled and brightened the day for those around him.

David is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kimberly Kay Bohlin, and his parents, Bette and Dick Bohlin, of Blacksburg; sister Cheryl (“Sherry”) in Charlotte, NC; sister Catherine (“Cathy”) and husband Tucker Twitmyer of Wayne, PA; nephew Bennett Twitmyer of Redondo Beach, CA, and niece Emma Twitmyer of New York, NY. He was preceded in death by his in-laws Clyde and Mary Lee Shaver.

His visitation will be held at McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at McCoy on Wednesday September 9, 2026 at 1 pm. Services will conclude at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center.
