Allen, David Lee

David Lee Allen (76) passed away peacefully at home on October 1, 2023. A lifelong resident of Pulaski, VA, David attended Calfee School and was a graduate of Pulaski High School.

David began a career in healthcare in the 1970s at Pulaski Community Hospital, where he discovered the field of respiratory therapy that was his life’s work. David worked in the hospital system for 25 years before establishing Allen Providing Healthcare Services, where he supported patients throughout Southwest Virginia and beyond with respiratory care services and home health equipment for nearly 30 years.

As a respiratory therapist and business owner, David contributed greatly to the community he called home. David was called into the ministry later in life and pastored the Main Street Worship Chapel in Pulaski. He was known for his love of music and beautiful voice, both of which he used to share the glory of God through sermons and in song.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. Allen and beloved mother Iler Waugh Allen; two siblings, Helen L. Allen and Curtis E. Allen; and his daughter, Helen L. Allen. He is survived by four children, David “Junior” Lee Allen, Jr., Shenia Palmer, Brittany Allen, and Marcus Allen; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and five siblings, Elizabeth “Channie” Allen Villinger, James Allen, Charles Allen, Jr., Patricia Diane Allen, and Richard E. Allen. David also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, as well as the team that supported him at Allen Providing Healthcare Services.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023, 1:00 pm, at Randolph Avenue United Methodist Church in Pulaski, VA, with a celebration of life gathering and meal to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s name to Calfee Community and Cultural Center, Pulaski, VA.
