Lewis, Evelyn Rees
Evelyn Lewis was born was the second of three daughters from parents who immigrated from Wales. Her father, William Einon Rees and mother, Temperance Maude James were followed to Buffalo, NY by both sets of parents. Evelyn was nicknamed Peggy by one of her grandmothers.
Her father became an US citizen upon his honorable discharge from the US Army at the end of WW1. He fortunately never went to Europe to engage although he lost a brother who didn’t immigrate and was killed in battle there.
Peggy was married twice and is survived by her children; Kathy King, William Yetzer & Wife Joann, Cathi Lewis and Whitney Lewis. She had 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lewis, her sisters; Gwen Morganstern and Mary Christiano. She also suffered the tragic loss of two grandchildren; Jason (5-1981) and Travis (13-2006).
Evelyn spent her entire life being a mother and Homemaker. She grew up in a Buffalo, NY before living in Missouri, New Orleans LA, Detroit MI and Virginia; where she stayed for approximately 65 years. She began life as a city girl and became a farm wife/Mom who learned to garden and live a rural lifestyle before retiring to Richmond in 1988. She resided with her son, Whitney and grandson, Rhys for almost 10 years before residing at Heritage Hall in Blacksburg, VA.
Evelyn (Peggy) Lewis was blessed with a kind, loving and giving spirit until she passed away. She was loved and respected by everyone she met. The family would like to express deep gratitude to the Staff at Heritage Hall who all loved her and treated her with dignity until the end of her life.
