Swarey, Alta Peachey

Alta Miriam Swarey, 70 years and 1 day, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at her home. She was born April 7, 1956 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Samuel Tobias & Salina Hostetler Peachey.

Alta enjoyed being outdoors and admired cloud formations and the sunshine. She enjoyed gardening. She enjoyed cooking and one of her family’s favorite meals was her Yumsetti casseroles.

Alta loved her family. She had 11 sisters and had no brothers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel T. & Salina Hostetler Peachey and 5 sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Daniel Y. Swarey, whom she married on October 9, 1979; 10 children: 8 sons and 2 daughters, Urie & Brenda, Dearing, GA, Henry & Nancy, Fredonia, PA, Amos & Barbara, Pearisburg, VA, Rachel, Mifflintown, PA, Israel & Susannah, Liverpool, PA, Leah & Marcus Hostetler, Hamptonville, NA, Jonas, Summers, AR, Tobias & Anna, Guthrie, KY, Simeon, Pearisburg, VA and Clemens, Pearisburg, VA; 9 grandsons, 3 granddaughters and 2 great-granddaughters; and 6 sisters.

The family will receive friends in a time of viewing and visitation on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the White Gate Schoolhouse from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Friday, April 10, 2026 at the White Gate Schoolhouse with Bishop Sam Chupp and Bishop Uriah Hostetler, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
