Long, Cecil Weldon

Cecil Weldon Long, age 86, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, WV. Born August 10, 1939, in Red Sulphur Springs, WV, he was the son of the late Ernest Weldon Long and Nellie Gray Ballard Long.

Cecil was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Red Sulphur Springs, WV. He worked at Celanese and as a beef cattle farmer. He loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising a garden. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Lee Long; and three sisters, Oreleeda Faith Long, Rose Marie Helm, and Ardell “Tootie” Campbell.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Linda Shrewsbury Long of the home; two children, Gina Long and Michael Long, both of Red Sulphur Springs, WV; two grandchildren, Cindy Long and Sarah Long of CA; two brothers, Fairley Long and wife Bernice, and John Long and wife Ethel; sister-in-law, Julia Light and husband Buddy; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Derrick Leslie officiating. Burial will follow at the Red Sulphur Springs Community Church Cemetery in Red Sulphur Springs, WV. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
