Ritter, Shirley Hudson

Ritter, Shirley HudsonShirley Ann Hudson Ritter, a beloved mother, sister, and cherished member of the Pearisburg community, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on February 20, 1938, in Pearisburg, Virginia, Shirley was a lifelong resident who touched the lives of many with her kindness and generosity.

Shirley’s life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family and the simple joys that bring warmth to everyday life. As a homemaker, she created a nurturing environment filled with love and care, not only for her family but for all creatures great and small. Her love knew no bounds, and she was often found tending to her beloved dogs, ensuring they were spoiled with affection, and meticulously feeding the birds and squirrels that frequented her garden.

Her son, Monty Ritter, was the light of her life, and Shirley’s devotion to his well-being was evident in every action she took. Shirley was part of the heart and soul of her family, a family that includes her loving sister, Juanita Lucas; her brother-in-law, Buddy Perdue; her sister-in-law, Alice Hudson; and many adoring nieces and nephews. Each of them benefited from her wisdom, her infectious laughter, and the comfort of her presence. Shirley’s memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories they share and the traditions she established.

Her life was marked by the love she shared with her late husband, Willis Allen Ritter, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a life rich in companionship and mutual respect. Shirley was also predeceased by her caring parents, Raymond Hudson and Ora Willard Hudson; her brother, Buddy Hudson; and her sister, Frances Perdue. Each of them played a significant role in her life’s journey, and their influence was woven into the fabric of her character.

Shirley’s spirit of service extended beyond the walls of her home. She was an active participant in her community, where she was known for her willingness to lend a helping hand and her capacity to listen with an open heart. Her approachable nature made her a trusted confidante and friend to many.
