11/2: NRV Heart Walk
As the celebration of its centennial year continues, your American Heart Association is excited to partner with local businesses and community teams for the return of the New River Valley Heart Walk, happening this Saturday, November 2nd, at the Uptown Christiansburg Mall. Registration opens at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m. Funds raised from the event will help fight the #1 and #5 killers of Americans – heart disease and stroke. Aaron Carr (LewisGale Hospital Montgomery) is the 2024 NRV Heart Walk Chair. WDBJ 7’s Taylor Locke will emcee the event.
“We are so excited to celebrate our centennial year with our wonderful friends and supporters in the New River Valley,” said Christie Steele-Garcia, Development Director for the American Heart Association. “We can’t wait to see all of the smiling faces of our community teams, volunteers, sponsors and, of course, our survivors, as we join together to fight heart disease and stroke.”
The morning will have many things to offer attendees, including live music, the Pooch Parade, snacks, and booths with the event’s many sponsors.
Area sponsors include InMotion, MOOG, Tenneco, Carilion Clinic, Celanese, LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, LewisGale Hospital Pulaski, VCOM, ESS Technologies, and the Virginia Tech Foundation. WDBJ 7 News, Q99 FM, and Lamar Outdoor are the media supporters for the event.
“We can’t say thanks enough to our sponsors and community partners,” added Steele-Garcia. “They helped us make this year’s Heart Walk a rousing success and, without them, our mission to save lives couldn’t happen.”
Steele-Garcia reminds attendees to look for survivors wearing their special Red Caps (heart survivor) and White Caps (stroke survivor). “If you want to know why you help, just look at our Red Cap and White Cap survivors,” she said. “They are all the motivation you need.”
