Zirk, Gerald Lee 2Gerald Lee Zirk, 78, of Blacksburg, Virginia passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025.

A proud graduate of Virginia Tech, Class of 1969, Gerald carried his Hokie spirit throughout his life, cherishing his time at the university and the friendships he built along the way. A loyal fan of Virginia Tech football, he rarely missed a game and took great pride in cheering on his Hokies through every season.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine Zirk, and his daughter, Mariah Zirk.

Gerald is survived by his son, Jason Zirk, and his daughter, Evelyn Boyle, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, who will forever remember his laughter, sharp wit, and unwavering strength.

Gerald had a passion for bowling and spent many happy hours at the lanes with friends and family. He also loved visiting the beach, where he found peace and joy in the sound of the waves and the beauty of the ocean. A loyal member of the Moose Lodge, Gerald valued camaraderie, community service, and good company – always ready with a joke or a story to make others smile.

As Creedence Clearwater Revival sang, “Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ on the river,” Gerald kept moving through life with a grin, a steady rhythm, and a song in his heart.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, a man of integrity, humor, and heart who made life brighter for everyone around him.

A celebration of Gerald’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Virginia Tech Alumni Association or a charity of your choice.
