Weather Update 6 am
WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 1 PM EST MONDAY.
* WHAT…Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations between 5 and 9 inches and ice accumulations between
one quarter and four tenths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
* WHERE…Portions of central, south central, southwest, and west central Virginia and southeast West Virginia.
* WHEN…From 1 PM this afternoon to 1 PM EST Monday.
* IMPACTS…Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.
