Tourism Generated $19.9 Million in Floyd County

Tourism continues to make a significant contribution to Floyd County’s local economy. In 2025, visitors spent a record $19.9 million directly in Floyd County, an 8.7% increase over 2024, according to economic impact data from the Virginia Tourism Corporation and Tourism Economics.

Visitor spending also supported approximately 132 jobs in Floyd County in 2025 and generated an estimated $800,000 in local tax revenue.

Local tax revenue generated by visitor spending helps support services and contributes to the quality of life for Floyd County residents. In 2025, the local tax revenue generated by direct visitor spending resulted in an estimated $116.89 in tax savings per Floyd County household.

Visitor spending reaches many parts of the local economy, including lodging, restaurants, retail businesses, attractions, farms, galleries, outdoor recreation, and other tourism-related businesses and services.

“These numbers show the importance of tourism to Floyd County and the many local businesses that benefit from visitor spending. When visitors choose to stay, eat, shop, and experience Floyd, that spending has a direct impact on our local economy,” said Kathleen Legg, Floyd Tourism Director. “The continued growth in visitor spending reflects the hard work of the businesses and people who make Floyd a place visitors want to experience.”

The economic impact figures are based on domestic visitor spending from travelers within the United States. The data includes visitors who stayed overnight or traveled more than 50 miles to the destination.
