Thomas, Donald E. 4Donald E. Thomas, 86 of Pembroke, Virginia formerly of Leon, WV peacefully joined his Lord and Savior on July 16, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ellen Peck Thomas and their infant son, Donald L Thomas; his parents, Luther and Myrtle (Manley) Thomas; and a brother, Ronald Thomas.

He is survived by two daughters, Tootie Mills (Steve), and Terri Martin (Jeff); his 7 grandchildren, Chris Mills (Shelly), Todd Matherly, Amber Stover (Frankie), Jason Matherly, Jessica Belcher (Chris), Tiffany Martin, and Heather Dreano (Yann); 19 great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Brooke, Kendra, Morgan, Merci, Destiny, Nicatye, Madelyn, Abby, Dawson, Coltman, Zoey, Keagan, Vann, Gavin, Peyton, Liam, Asher, and Elliot; three great-great grandchildren, Houston, Hudson, and Hayzleigh; one brother, Orville Thomas (Janie); a dear and special friend, Betty Thomas; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

During his life, Donald dedicated his life to the honor of serving his country while stationed in Korea for the United States Army. He later provided for his family retiring from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, West Virginia. An avid fisherman, he caught the West Virginia State Record for a small mouth bass in Summersville Lake. Then in August of 2020, he was awarded his 50-year pin for his continued membership with the Masonic Lodge. He too would find freedom in being an avid golfer whether walking the full 18 holes, putting, or driving. In addition to this he was an avid Giles Spartan fan who supported both the boys and girls, no matter the season.

The family wishes to thank Carilion Home Health and Good Samaritan Hospice for their outstanding support and care. They also wish to extend a special thank you to all of Don’s wonderful neighbors.

The family will receive friends in a time of visitation on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke, Virginia. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Kendall Funeral Home with Gary Poff officiating. Funeral services will conclude at New Zion Cemetery in Waiteville, West Virginia where military honors will be presented and he will be laid to rest.
