Statement on Harmful Spanberger Executive Action
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger signed Executive Directive 1, directing the Commonwealth’s law enforcement agencies to terminate any and all Section 287(g) agreements. This order threatens the work of Virginia State Police and the Virginia Department of Corrections to cooperate with federal law enforcement to keep Virginia communities safe.
U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“Law enforcement officials are important public safety servants in Virginia’s Ninth District. A core function of their mission is to protect Virginia communities, and I believe cooperation between local, state and federal officials helps accomplish that goal.
“I believe Governor Spanberger’s action to terminate 287(g) agreements directly undermines this goal and potentially pits local communities, state law enforcement and federal law enforcement against each other. This creates danger for all involved.
“This executive directive can be seen as encouraging behaviors and actions that obstruct federal law enforcement!
“Because the public safety needs of our communities are in Virginia’s best interest, I urge Governor Spanberger to rescind this harmful executive directive.”

Of course he didn’t mention that it’s just STATE police, not local police. Everyone but state police is still working with the DHS. He’s making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I wasn’t aware until the news this evening that this agreement allowed Federal law enforcement to be in authority over local and state law enforcement. Why did the former governor knowingly and willing turn over control of local and state law enforcement to anyone beside state and local authorities? How is doing so in the best interest of anyone in Virginia?

I think our law enforcement officers need to pay attention to local issues. Leave the federal issues to the feds

This is the kind of posturing, do-nothingness that conservatives in the 9th district have grown to expect from our so-called “representative” in Congress. The curtness of his response offers those of his constituents, concerned with a Governor that appears determined to jettison any of their pretenses about being a “moderate”, with zero encouragement from his perch across the Potomac. Is he incapable of referencing perhaps any references to say the Virginia or US Constitution and its purpose of limiting the would be powers of tyrants and guaranteeing certain liberties in our Bills of Rights? I’m sorry, but what a worthless defender we have in Congress. Then there’s our current “leader”, mirroring a certain President that likes to rule by edicts, as if they truly were dictators of what the law says. Don’t politicians swear an oath to represent something bigger than themselves and their particular party? Then there’s the lying media that refuses to cover any of these questions and offenses, except from the lens of party division.

From what I can understand, there is nothing in the executive order that would lead local and state law enforcement to interfere with immigration enforcement which, by law, is the responsibility of the federal government. I may be misinformed but I am not aware of any federal funding for local and state law enforcement to devote personnel and material resources to immigration enforcement. I believe that matter would be your venue which apparently is lacking. Why do you refuse to publicly face your constituents?

I agree wholeheartedly. Our state is in a great deal of trouble with this Governor undoing good things.

The real police doing their jobs to keep communities safe worked better before the authoritarian non-police was handed the keys.
Border Patrol, ICE, and anyone else Republicans have given a ton of money and no rules to need to follow the law. No warrant entry into homes. Stopping people for skin color or an accent isn’t cause.
Griffith and the rest of the majority party in Congress aren’t working for we, the people.

Ha Ha we haven’t seen anything yet!

His days are coming to and end just like another of other Republicans. They have ruined our country under Trump and they will pay come election day.
February 5, 2026 @ 9:22 am
I much prefer the “public safety” we had BEFORE ICE was empowered by Trump.
February 5, 2026 @ 9:15 am
No public condemnation of ICE or the thugs and murderers in their ranks. You were the beneficiary of gerrymandering and your time is coming to an end.
February 5, 2026 @ 6:18 am
Dem’s love anti-law, protecting illeagal murderers just for a blue vote. Our great state was ruined the day Spermberger was sworn in.

Are there politicians in your family or does lying just come naturally?

Of course this would be your maga-sucking statement. Your time is ticking.
