Springhouse to Receive Grant

Springhouse to Receive Grant 4Pilot, VA — Springhouse is pleased to announce being approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Challenge America award of $10,000. This grant will support letterpress workshops and staff salaries at the Springhouse print shop, Sourced Press. In total, the NEA will award 257 Challenge America awards totaling $2,570,000 that were announced as part of its first round of fiscal year 2024 grants.

“The NEA is delighted to announce this grant to Springhouse, which is helping contribute to the strength and well-being of the arts sector and local community,” said National Endowment for the Arts Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “We are pleased to be able to support this community and help create an environment where all people have the opportunity to live artful lives.”

Sarah Pollock, Sourced Press Director, shared, “Sourced Press expresses our gratitude to the National Endowment for the Arts. Their support plays a pivotal role in preserving the rich artistry and traditions of the free printing press, ensuring they can be passed onto future generations.”

Springhouse Executive Director, Jenny Finn, added, “ We are very grateful to the National Endowment for the Arts for their support of our print shop. We are excited to be able to continue to invite the community in through our workshops that focus on bookmaking, relief printing,and letterpress, and to share our learning with the community through printed media.”

Sourced Press is one of the channels through which Springhouse seeks to inspire action that furthers its vision: a world where all life thrives. These workshops, accessible to all community members, will offer opportunities for participants to learn about the rich tradition of printing, build community, and express their unique voices in this medium.
