Smith, Sr., James Edward

James Edward Smith Sr., 63 of Christiansburg, VA departed this life September 25, 2023 in the care of Lewis-Gale Medical Center Salem. Born June 11, 1960 in Montgomery County, Virginia he was a son of the late Roy Smith and Mildred Hinkley.

James thoroughly enjoyed all that life had to offer. He also enjoyed the care of his family. In his youth, he enjoyed the challenge of playing chess. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed recreational time whether he was shooting a game of pool; behind home plate at a baseball game; or bowling.

In addition to his parents James is preceded in death by his brother, Larry Smith.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, James Smith Jr. (Melissa Lovern) of Christiansburg, VA; Travis Smith of Ballard, WV, and Zachary Smith of Christiansburg, VA; brothers, Elmer Lee Smith (Vickie) of Fairlawn, VA, and Woody Smith (Linda) of Botetourt County, Virginia; and sisters, Teresa Vaught of Blacksburg, VA, and Rose Long of Riner, VA.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel.
