Smith, Robert Warren
Robert “Bob” Warren Smith, 63, of Radford, Virginia, passed on to a different place on December 7th, 2025. He was surrounded by family the night prior with shared stories and loving memories in the air. As a father, brother, confidant, and friend, Bob approached life with lighthearted character, a spiritual passion, and boundless enthusiasm for learning.
Bob was born on February 6th, 1962, in York, Pennsylvania. In the Boy Scouts, he frequently camped around Lake Tuckahoe, and duly earned his Eagle Scout badge. In his pursuit of education, Bob attended Gettysburg College in his undergraduate years and took classes at Johns Hopkins University, College of William & Mary, and achieved his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology through Case Western Reserve University. After graduating, Bob worked in rural parts of Virginia such as Wytheville, where he opened a practice to help some of the most disadvantaged people find light in their lives.
Bob was an animal lover, known to take a stray or the oldest dog home from the local animal shelter. In particular, his dogs, Mandy, Kady, and his childhood dog, Peanut, were all quite dear to him. He saw the value of all lives and was one to accept living beings as equal and cherished, regardless of the way they looked, their capability, or their age.
Bob was someone anyone could talk to. He was well-known for his quick, witty humor and profoundly introspective outlook. He was a friend to all; even at an early age, he became friends with an older woman named “Flossie” who lived across the street. At age 6, he proposed to her with a ring from a gumball machine. He made friends all across the world during his travels, never skipping a historic site or any place where a life lesson could be learned. Keeping a childlike sense of wonder, Bob stayed fascinated by the great mysteries of the universe. One of the dreams he frequently shared was to see the Seven Wonders of the World.
His legacy will live on: Survived by his son Shane Smith, daughter Cassie Smith, sister Kathy Smith, brother Michael Harbaugh, nephew Matthew Gallagher (spouse Rose Gallagher), great-nephew Grant Gallagher, and numerous other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann Bear and Harry Junior Smith, and all of his grandparents.
No funeral service will be held.
