IN LOVING MEMORY OF REV. JOSEPH (J.B) BUFORD SHELTON
1945-2023

Rev. Joseph Buford (J.B.) Shelton, 77, of Hiwassee Virginia, peacefully passed away on July 15, 2023. Rev. Joseph (J.B.) was born in his family home in Hiwassee, VA on November 18, 1945 to Rev. J.E. and Lummie Shelton of Hiwassee, Virginia.

He attended Dublin High School. On January 16, 1965, he married his wife Shirley of 56 years and they resided in Hiwassee, VA. In 1989 they moved to Christiansburg, VA. He was employed by Odell Construction out of Hiwassee, VA.

At the age of 28, Rev. Joseph Shelton went into full-time ministry and founded Faith Revivals where he evangelized in all 50 states. In 1990 he founded Missionaries to America where he spread the gospel among the missionary fields. He pastored many churches in Virginia, West Virginia, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was a member of the Mark IV Quartet from Hiwassee, VA and played on the Grand Ole Opry. He was a singer and songwriter. He loved Gospel music and had a talent for many instruments.

Rev. Joseph (J.B.) is preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Shelton of Virginia, special son, Jeffery Vickers of Virginia, youngest son Elisha Shelton of Arizona, his parents Rev. J.E and Lummie Shelton of Virginia, and many of his siblings, Clyde Clifton Shelton, Dorthy Louise Shelton, Hoover Shelton, Pauline Landreth, Moody Shelton, Imogine Mabe, Geraldine Russell, and Leslie Shelton.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Dwight Shelton and spouse Lisa Shelton of North Carolina, Joey Shelton and spouse Lisa Shelton of Virginia, Ember Shelton of Virginia, Craig Shelton and spouse Michele Shelton of Arizona, William (W.S.) Shelton and spouse Angela Shelton of both Virginia. Special son Jerry (J.W.) Ashburn of Virginia. Special daughter-in-law Melissa Vickers of Virginia and daughter-in-law Jolynn Shelton of Washington. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Siblings: Brother Johnny and spouse Brenda Shelton of Virginia, Sister, Daphine McPeak of Virginia, Sister-in-laws, Betty and Jeanie Shelton of Virginia

Services:

Friday, September 1, 2023: 6pm-8pm family will receive friends and family for fellowship. Saturday, September 2, 2023: Celebration of Life at 1:00pm with celebration dinner to follow at the fellowship hall.
